USSAC is run by a committee elected at our Annual General Meeting. Please feel free to contact any of us and we will try and help if we can!
Chair - Becki Gill
The Chair of USSAC is the primary student interface for the club and is responsible for the regular interactions with the University Union. The Chairman is also responsible for coordinating the meetings with the club committee.
Becki is relatively new to diving, having only started last year and managing to complete both ocean diver and sports diver in the year. She is currently in her second year studying Biomedical science, and hopes to continue progressing with her diving over the next few years.
Secretary - James Robinson
The main role of the secretary is ensuring that all of the details that are held with BSAC HQ are up- to-date. The beginning of the year is the normal sign up time for most students, thus is important that they are comfortable quickly with the routine, and the secretary plays their part in welcoming new members to the club.
James has been a member with USSAC for a year now, and is currently in his second year of studying Civil Engineering at the University of Surrey. As far as diving is concerned James joined the club as a PADI ocean diver crossover, he is currently a sports diver and hopes to progress his diving further.
Treasurer - Dan Waller
The treasurer is mainly responsible for all of the club accounts. To do so effectively, they should understand and abide by the Union rules for club funding and keep the committee up-to-date on the state of funding.
They must ensure that club expenditure is done so within the club’s funding and if not secure an additional grant before the expenditure takes place.
They will also have the responsibility of ensuring that all club fees and membership is collected!
Diving Officer - Adam Stevens

The club Diving Officer is defined by BSAC as ‘the National Diving Officer’s representative at Branch level, as defined in BSAC Rules’. The DO ultimately is responsible for all diving that is performed within the club. This involves overlooking all training and giving advice on diving where necessary.
Adam has been in the club for two years now and has a fair bit of diving under his belt, but still has a long way to go. No longer at Surrey Uni, he is just starting a PhD, researching into the exploration of Mars, but hopes to be around to help as much as he can and continue his Dive Leader and Instructor training.
Training Officer - Sarah Guard
The Training Officer is responsible for every aspect of training within the club and maintains the training records for the club.
These responsibilities run from the very first Try Dives through to organising training sessions for more competent divers.
Sarah is one of the rarer types of member in the club – a dedicated PADIer! She is very active as a PADI instructor but has leapt into the training officer role with both feet and is keen to use her experience to get some new BSAC trainees going!
Kit Officer - Phil Rose
The Kit Officer is mainly responsible for ensuring that all club equipment and services such as the compressor are kept suitably maintained and serviced.
Phil is a relative newcomer to the club, having zipped through his Ocean AND Sports Diver in one year but has now confessed to having “gotten the bug”. He can mostly be found spending time watching for Dive bargains on eBay.
Boat Officer - Drew Bellamy
The Boat Officer is primarily responsible for the club’s Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) called Garfield and must ensure that it is seaworthy.
Alongside this, it is their responsibility to deal with any other aspects of boat-related equipment.
No one can really remember how long Drew has been in the club, as he’s so old. However, we all know how much he loves a bit of boat action and Garfield could be considered a surrogate child, if he didn’t already have a real one!
Social Secretary - Graeme Read
As the name suggests, the Social Secretary organises the club’s social events, whether that be the Fresher’s Welcome social, the occasional Curry night or our now traditional trip to the Hogsback brewery!
Graeme is another newbie to the club, although he’s dived in some much more exotic locations than most of us before he joined.
He’s going to use his experience as social sec of the University of Surrey Cricket Club to boost the club socials. To the max.
