Whether you’ve never tried sub aqua, or you’ve done a few experience lessons on holiday, with the help of the instructors and members at USSAC you’ll be diving wrecks like the HMS Scylla in Plymouth or collecting Scallops from the sea bed at Portland in Dorset in no time!
Try Dive
The first thing we’ll need you to do is come along to the pool for a Try Dive where you can have a go in the pool with the SCUBA equipment and feel what it’s like to breathe underwater, fine tune your buoyancy, and even play with the underwater torpedo!
Ocean Diver
After your Try Dive, if you think sub aqua is something you want to continue with, you can join the Ocean Diver training scheme which aims to get you in the water learning all of the important skills to dive safely with a buddy under the supervision of a more experienced diver.
To qualify as an Ocean Diver you will need to:
- Attend OD lectures
- Complete OD pool lessons
- Come on some training trips to dive in open water
It’s easily possible to complete Ocean Diver in your first year in the club, though if you’re really keen you can move straight on to Sports Diver. Ocean Divers are a little limited when it comes to UK diving so to come on some club trips you’ll want to advance as soon as possible.
As an Ocean Diver you still need to be supervised though, so most divers tend to continue to become Sports Divers where with experience you become more competent, confident, and responsible, but with that comes a greater ability to dive, and makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable!
