USSAC welcomes members of all diving abilities and tries to train as many divers as possible in a given year. However, as resources are limited we only offer limited training places.
There are three ways to enter the club:
“I don’t have any diving qualifications”
“I have a diving qualification from another agency (e.g. PADI)”
BSAC information
Run by divers, for divers since 1953, BSAC knows just how enjoyable and life-changing diving can be, and with a worldwide reputation for excellence and safety, BSAC provides all the training and support you need to get the best out of this exciting sport.
The BSAC training schemes provide new and competent divers the opportunity and direction to learn new skills, and extend their experience of sub aqua.
Ocean Diver
The main progression of qualifications starts at Ocean Diver and provides you with the necessary skills and techniques to dive safely with a buddy, under the supervision of a more experienced diver. An OD can dive to a maximum depth of 20m.
Sports Diver
To dive alone as a buddy pair you must be a Sports Diver or above. Developing the safety skills and building on the diving experiences you gain during the Ocean Diver training, the Sports Diver qualification is where most divers tend to cease their training. From here you can do Skill Development Courses which allow you to specialise your skills in a particular area such as Advanced Nitrox, Search & Rescue, Wreck Appreciation, or even something more exotic like Ice Diving! A Sports Diver can dive to a maximum depth of 35m.
Dive Leader
For those diver who want to progress to the next level, they train to be a Dive Leader. This qualification further enhances your safety as a diver, but more specifically in a leading role. This allows you to progress onto further Instructor qualifications, and more! A Dive Leader is qualified to dive to 50m.
Further
Finally there’s Advanced Diver, and First Class Diver. These two grades in the BSAC training scheme start to move onto more technical diving skills.
