Who Are We?
USSAC is the University of Surrey Sub-Aqua Club, one the University’s largest non-competitive sports clubs. We are a British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) branch 0316 and run diver training programmes throughout the University semesters and various trips in the UK and abroad throughout the year.
USSAC is primarily a student club, so you need to be a current student at the University of Surrey, although we do also accept a small number of non-student members.
Try-dive sessions are held every year at the beginning of each semester, but you can also join the Club at any time, just e-mail our Chair Katie for more information!
How Much?
Try-dives are totally free, so if you are interested come along to one of the sessions or arrange one for yourself.
We charge an annual Club fee, and you must pay for BSAC membership, both of which give you a number of benefits, not just only one of the least costly ways of learning to dive :-
- Use of Club equipment & free air fills
- Kit storage in the USSAC storage facility
- Diving insurance via your BSAC membership
- Access to the USSAC e-mail list to find buddies
- Access to any USSAC trips
- Access to BSAC’s Diver Training, Skill Development and Instructor Training Programmes
- BSAC iScuba or Scuba magazine
- BSAC email Newsletter
- BSAC member benefit scheme
USSAC Instructors are all volunteers, so training itself is totally free, however, to obtain a BSAC qualification you must purchase the relevant qualification pack (though we’ll do the paperwork for you).
Additionally the training requires a series of Open Water dives to be completed, these are typically done at inland lakes which will incur entry and transport costs, to undertake the dives protective equipment is required and you can either buy or hire a dry suit. We recommend members buy their own mask, fins, hood and gloves and soon as possible, however the Club has a limited selection to borrow.
We regularly run trips throughout the year, these are pay as you go.
